MoneyWell is aimed at people that want to focus on budgeting rather than complex financial management and investment in general.
It's got a gentler learning curve than either iBank or MoneyDance and is easy to get up and running with. The downside of this is that it lacks some of the more powerful features of the latter such as single line transactions and the ability to pay bills online.
It does however support direct connect banking, envelope budgeting, transaction and cash flow management and iPhone integration for budgeting on the move. MoneyWell is very clear and straightforward. It shows all your income and expenses in one clear interface which are put into buckets and listed on the left of the program window.
You can create buckets for every sort of income and expense such as transportation, education or clothing. The right part of the interface shows details for a specific item while the center shows all general information. You're also able to set monthly and yearly spending for specific buckets and assign varying priorities for these. MoneyWell also lets you easily set your starting income the first time you launch the program.
MoneyWell isn't the most powerful personal finance application out there but it is one of the best for making budgets.
